To achieve USA Swimming Certification, the Olympic-sized swimming pool at the University of South Dakota Wellness Center required precise, independently verified measurements of lane lengths and water depths. Accurate surveying was essential to confirm that the pool met strict certification standards, allowing it to be used for sanctioned competitions and athletic programming.

Banner Associates’ survey team applied high-precision measurement techniques to capture accurate lane and depth data in an environment not typically surveyed. The team measured 32 lanes, including 24 lanes at 25 yards and 8 lanes at 50 meters. Because traditional survey methods are not commonly used in aquatic environments, the survey team developed a custom setup to accurately utilize a laser distance measuring device over the water surface. Attention to detail and creative problem-solving was necessary to ensure measurements met requirements. Banner provided the following services to support certification of this unique athletic facility:
