Project Details
To achieve the City of Hurley's vision of recreational opportunities around the man-made Lake Hurley, Banner first helped them apply for funding through the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks (GF&P) Recreational Trails program. They were awarded funding for a 2,000 LF recreation trail. After the project was bid, record rainfall hit the area for 2+ years. Banner worked with the City, Contractor, and GF&P to obtain deadline extensions and to modify the original design to accommodate the change in conditions.
In the end, the City ended up with a new 10' wide asphalt concrete recreational trail that also serves as access to a fishing dock they received through a different grant program from the GF&P. Residents were seen using the recreational trail immediately, and the City received numerous compliments from their residents for this added feature. Local residents plan to add additional recreational facilities, such as a picnic shelter, through the generosity of private donations. Additionally, the neighboring residential development has seen increasing interest in new home construction.
