Project Details
The existing bridge structure near Dell Rapids was load-restricted and in poor condition, limiting its ability to support modern traffic demands safely. Load restrictions impact daily travel for local residents, emergency services, and agricultural operations by forcing detours and reducing efficiency. Replacing the structure was necessary to restore full access, improve safety, and meet current design and load standards.
By replacing the deteriorated structure with a new bridge designed to current standards, the project removed load restrictions and improved roadway safety for all users. The updated structure accommodates modern vehicle loads and includes improved roadside safety features, helping ensure reliable access for local traffic and agricultural equipment while supporting long term transportation needs in the area.
This project involved the replacement of a highway bridge near Dell Rapids, South Dakota. The existing structure was removed and replaced with a new bridge designed to meet current structural and safety standards. Due to site conditions, the replacement structure bears directly on the underlying quartzite bedrock, requiring careful consideration during design and construction planning. Banner Associates supported this project from initial evaluation through structure replacement and delivery by providing the following services:
- Roadway Maintenance - 3R
- Storm Water Modeling
- Bridges/Box Culvert Design, Rehabilitation, Inspections, and Load Capacity Ratings
- Section 404 Permitting
- Topographic Surveys
- Construction Staking and Layout
- Right-of-Way/Easement Surveys
- Construction Contract Administration
